how can you help protect the tarkine?

tourism

The Tarkine will also come under increasing pressure from developers wanting to build resorts in and around its forests and rivers. This could and should have a positive outcome, creating jobs and wealth. The TNC has actively promoted and will continue to promote the tourism potential of the Tarkine.

In recent times we have seen developments within national parks and wilderness areas that jeopardize the values of these precious areas. The TNC considers resort developments within the undisturbed wilderness of the Tarkine to be totally at odds with the wilderness values of the Tarkine.

The need to insure an appropriate management plan for the region will be high on the TNC's agenda and we hope to meet with all stakeholders shortly to outline our draft management plan developed in 2004.

There is a very real danger that some of the greatest threats to the Tarkine are yet to be confronted! A perception that the Tarkine is saved due to the Federal Government package poses a huge risk to the Tarkine.

The job is not finished!

Many people have dedicated decades to the fight for the Tarkine. It can be tiring and difficult work and it would be tempting see the Federal Government's package as reason to have a rest, or to give up. We cannot afford to rest. We must continue the momentum that has been created by the May 13 decision to fight even harder for full protection of the Tarkine.
